In the ’80s, you could go to the Cedar Key Art Festival and you’d find Thelma McCain selling her homemade crab cakes for $2 each in the park to benefit the Lioness club. Thirty years later, Thelma is still at it. And the crab cakes are still $2. Officially called the Old Florida Celebration of the Arts, the Cedar Key Art Festival is celebrating its 47th year.... Field Volunteers Needed for Gulf Sturgeon Study

The USGS is searching for some volunteers to help with night sampling/tagging of Gulf Sturgeon at the Suwannee River mouth between March 21 and April 1. This is a part of the oil spill impact study conducted by the USGS Coastal Ecology & Conservation Research Group. For more information contact USGS reps. Cedar Key & Levy County FL Celebrate 150 years of Railroad Service

On March 16, 1861, the Florida Railroad locomotive Abner McGehee pulled onto the Big Dock in Cedar Key marking the completion of the 155.5 mile rail line from Fernandina on the Atlantic Ocean to Cedar Key on the Gulf of Mexico. A special event which will be held on March 18, 19, and 20, 2011, at the Cedar Key Community Center will be a display by the Ocala Model Railroaders Historic Preservation Society of the Florida Railroad. Events At Manatee Springs State Park!

Manatee Springs, FL is a short 30 minute drive from Cedar Key and is located on the famous Suwannee River. The springs themselves are a glorious aqua blue and are usually busy with divers exploring the underwater caves. The boardwalk from the parking lot takes you through a cypress swamp and out to the Suwannee River where you'll often see manatees swimming around the dock. Although Clamerica - the "All Things Clam" Independence Day Festival - will not be held in 2011, the city of Cedar Key has chosen to still hold the fireworks display on July 4, 2011 despite some requests for the event to be moved to Sunday, July 3. According to a Cedar Key Beacon Article, the fireworks will be fired off from Cemetery Point rather than in City Park as requested by some.
