"There is no evidence that oil from the Deepwater Horizon incident ever entered the habitat in Cedar Key...."

Need more evidence of Gulf Seafood being safe?

"The Daily Beast commissioned an independent lab, one of a handful certified to measure chemical dispersants, to analyze a cross-section of Gulf seafood - red grouper, jumbo shrimp, and crabmeat - for both oil and the dispersants that have prompted almost as much alarm as the petroleum itself. To further sharpen the test, we also performed similar tests on samples of those three types of seafood culled from the Atlantic Ocean." - Read More...

Cedar Key is a small fishing village located about 50 miles southwest of Gainesville, Florida; 2.5 hours north of Tampa, Florida; and 3 hours west of Jacksonville, FL. Need our Latitude and Longitude? (Lat: N 2908.3 Long: W 08303.0) Surrounded by the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, the Cedar Keys consist of dozens of islands or keys. Way Key is the primary key that the city of Cedar Key is built upon. Many islands are not much larger than a pelican's perch and some are only visible at low tide. About a dozen of those keys are reserved as a part of the Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge and several are designated as "wilderness areas". The Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge hosts some of the largest numbers of nesting birds in Florida. Bird watching is easy, whether you walk the shores or paddle your kayak out to the wildlife refuge. Tranquility's and Serenity's balconies are excellent for birdwatching.

Cedar Key is also known for its excellent fishing and clams. As a part of Florida's "Big Bend" and Nature Coast, the Gulf waters are home to a wide variety of saltwater game fish and shellfish. Many of Cedar Key's visitors are here for the fishing, whether it's in-shore fishing for trout and redfish or deep sea fishing for cobia and grouper among others.

We invite you to reserve one of our vacation rental homes - Tranquility or Serenity when you visit Cedar Key! Enjoy our Guide to all that is Cedar Key! View Tranquility's great review on Beach Vacation Rental Scout!
